VPD: Recent shootings appear to be related, ‘not random acts’

Officials with Vicksburg Police Department (VPD) said Tuesday that a Monday-night incident on Grange Hall Road appears to be the latest in a string of related shootings, both in Vicksburg and the surrounding areas.
“At 9:18 p.m. (Monday) officers of the Vicksburg Police Department responded to the area of the 300 block of Grange Hall Road in reference to shots fired,” VPD said. “Witnesses reported the occupants of a gray sedan were shooting at a black sedan while both vehicles were heading south on Grange Hall Road. Officers did recover shell casings in the roadway.”
Following a rash of other shootings last week that sent several people to areas hospitals, VPD said they are actively working with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office to identify suspects they believe to be involved in more than one, if not all, of the incidents.
“The Vicksburg Police Department and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office are working to apprehend the persons responsible for the recent shootings that have occurred throughout the area. At this time, all these events appear to be related to an incident that occurred earlier this month, and are not considered random acts.”
Separate shootings last week on Washington Street and the intersection of Gibson and Halls Ferry roads ended with two local men in the hospital suffering from gunshot wounds.
No injuries were reported as a result of the gunfire reported Monday on Grange Hall Road.
VPD said anyone with any information related to any of the incidents is encouraged to call the police department at 601-636-2511.
