Warren Central's Conner Watkins is the 2024 Vicksburg Post baseball Player of the Year for Warren County. The Copiah-Lincoln Community College signee led Warren Central to the MHSAA Class 6A championship series as a pitcher and shortstop. He batted .323 with five doubles and 24 RBIs at the plate. Laken Bradley/St. Aloysius, Jr., IF — Batted .313 with 15 RBIs and 23 runs scored ... also pitched for the Flashes and had a 2-0 record, one save and 20 strikeouts in 13 appearances
Tyler Carter/Vicksburg, Sr., IF — Big first baseman hit .340, with two home runs and 23 RBIs ... tied for the county lead with four triples
Chris Green/Vicksburg, Sr., IF — Five-year starter for the Gators batted .313 and had 14 stolen bases ... as a pitcher, had 36 strikeouts in 25 2/3 innings ... signed with Southern University-New Orleans
Lester Martin/Warren Central, Jr., IF — Excellent defensive first baseman only made one error in 196 chances ... batted .253 with 17 RBIs
Ryan Nelson/Warren Central, Sr., IF — Speedy second baseman batted .273 and led Warren County in runs (39) and stolen bases (27) ... had a .471 on-base percentage ... East Central Community College signee
Carson Smith/St. Aloysius, Jr., IF — Led Warren County with a .402 average, 33 hits and four triples ... hit eight doubles, and had a team-high 28 RBIs
Keller Bradley/St. Aloysius, Fr., OF — Good young outfielder batted .307 with 20 RBIs and a team-high 27 runs scored ... as a pitcher, had a 4-4 record with 49 strikeouts in 33 innings
Cade Fairley/Warren Central, Sr., OF — Hinds Community College signee batted .284 with two home runs, 10 doubles and 30 RBIs ... scored 26 runs
Braylon Green/Vicksburg, Sr., OF — Gators’ center fielder had a .328 batting average, to go with two home runs, four triples and 16 RBIs ... signed with Southern University-New Orleans
Hayes Loper/Warren Central, Jr., OF — Finished the season strong, with a .304 average and six RBIs in nine playoff games ... had a .265 average overall, with nine doubles and 22 RBIs
Chase Hearn/Porter’s Chapel, Sr., P — Had a 4-3 record, with a 3.58 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 45 innings pitched ... batted .306, with 25 RBIs and 29 runs scored
Maddox Lynch/Warren Central, Jr., P — One of Vikings’ three aces, he finished with a 4-0 record, 3.02 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 45 innings ... also a top hitter, with a .287 average, three home runs, 12 doubles and 31 RBIs
Brooks Willoughby/Warren Central, Sr., P — Southern Miss signee posted a 5-2 record to lead WC to the Class 6A finals ... led Warren County in strikeouts (87) and ERA (1.34) while throwing 53 2/3 innings
John Wyatt Massey/Porter’s Chapel, Sr., C — Coahoma Community College signee and MAIS all-star racked up a .382 batting average and led Warren County with seven homers and 35 RBIs ... had a 6-5 pitching record with 59 strikeouts in 48 2/3 innings
Thomas Azlin/Porter’s Chapel, Sr., Util. — MAIS all-star played several infield positions and led PCA with a .388 batting average ... hit two home runs ... drove in 29 runs, scored 26, and had 20 stolen bases
Taylor Labarre/Porter’s Chapel, Sr., DH — PCA shortstop was an excellent leadoff batter, with a .471 on-base percentage, 22 stolen bases and 36 runs scored ... had 14 RBIs
At the end of each high school sports season, The Vicksburg Post honors Warren County’s best athletes in a number of sports with its All-County teams.
The 2024 All-County baseball team features 17 of the area’s top players from Warren Central, Vicksburg High, St. Aloysius and Porter’s Chapel Academy.
The list is led by Warren Central senior Conner Watkins, who led the Vikings to the MHSAA Class 6A championship series as both a shortstop and a pitcher and earned the Player of the Year award.
Watkins finished the season with a team-best .323 average, along with a .496 on-base percentage. He scored 21 runs, drove in 24, and walked 31 times. On the mound he was 5-6 with 73 strikeouts and a 2.53 ERA in a team-high 72 2/3 innings.
Warren Central’s Randy Broome is The Post’s Coach of the Year for Warren County for the third time. He also won the award in 2004 and 2023. Broome guided the Vikings to a 19-13 record, their second consecutive Region 2-6A championship, and first trip to the state championship series since 2001.
Broome was Warren Central’s head coach from 2002-08, left to take a job in administration, and returned for a second stint as head coach in 2020. He has also had two tenures as an assistant and been part of the school’s baseball program since 1997.
