SCOOBA — One of Warren County’s recent soccer greats is embarking on his coaching career in the sport.

Ryan Theriot, who led St. Aloysius to two MAIS Class AAA championships in 2018 and 2019, has been hired as an assistant coach at East Mississippi Community College, the school announced Monday.

Theriot played college soccer at Hinds Community College in the spring 2021 season when current East Mississippi head coach Chris Rash was an assistant there. Theriot scored two goals as the Eagles finished 7-4 and reached the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference playoffs.

“I greatly respected Coach Rash’s work ethic and his dedication to the players when I was at Hinds as a player, and I was not at all surprised when he landed the head coaching job at EMCC,” Theriot said in a release announcing the hire. “I’m honored to now have an opportunity to coach with him as we work together to bring a championship to Scooba.”

Theriot scored a total of 104 goals during St. Al’s two state championship seasons and was The Vicksburg Post’s Warren County Player of the Year in 2019. The Flashes had a 35-6-1 record in 2018 and 2019, including a 17-match unbeaten streak capped by the second state title.

Theriot was also an MAIS football all-star at St. Al.

After finishing his athletic career at Hinds, Theriot transferred to Southern Miss. He received his bachelor’s degree in sport management in 2023 while also interning with the Southern Miss athletic marketing department in ticket sales. He got his master of business administration degree from Southern Miss earlier this year.
