St. Aloysius didn’t go far to fill its girls basketball coaching vacancy.
The school announced Monday that Walter Hallberg IV has been named its next girls basketball head coach, and will add those duties to the ones he already had as the boys’ coach.
Hallberg will replace K.K. Willis, who earlier this month announced she was leaving to take an assistant coaching position at Jackson Prep. Willis coached St. Al for one season.
“Coach Hallberg has been such an inspirational addition to our athletic staff. We are so excited to have the opportunity to expand his influence within our basketball program and as a role model for our athletes,” St. Aloysius principal Dawn Meeks said in a release announcing the hire.
Hallberg was the boys’ head coach at Porter’s Chapel Academy from 2020-22. He was The Vicksburg Post’s basketball Coach of the Year in 2022, when the Eagles finished 22-14 and reached the MAIS Class 3A semifinals and the Overall Tournament.
Hallberg left PCA at the end of that season, and was hired as St. Al’s coach late in the 2022-23 season when Kim Windom stepped down.
St. Al finished with a 15-13 record in 2023-24, Hallberg’s first full season with the team, and they reached the MAIS Class 5A South State tournament.
“I love being at St. Aloysius and look forward to being part of the girls’ basketball program,” Hallberg said in the school release.
