100 Years Ago: 1924

S.E. Farris sold his grocery store at Clay and First streets. • Mr. and Mrs. F.O. Fisher returned from a visit to Greenville. • Mrs. M.B. Harper had her tonsils removed at the Infirmary.

90 Years Ago: 1934

J.W. Tucker, the former sheriff, suffered a paralytic stroke. • The Know Mississippi Better Train passed through Vicksburg on its way to California. • Senator J.H. Culkin returned from a trip to Canada.

80 Years Ago: 1944

James E. Holder, a well-known resident, died in New Orleans. •  Mr. and Mrs. Billy Boult, of Mobile, were visiting residents in Warren County. • Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Sims and their children were vacationing in Alabama. 

70 Years Ago: 1954

Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Piazza announced the birth of a son, Donald. • Mrs. W.A. Wilson, of Memphis, was in Vicksburg visiting relatives. • Edward Thomas passed away.

60 Years Ago: 1964 

Noel Friedfeld died. • Services were held for Walter Johnson. • Lt. Cmdr. and Mrs. Robert J. McConaghie announced the birth of their son, David.  

50 Years Ago: 1974

Mr. and Mrs. Norman Bobb and their children returned from a trip to Pensacola, Fla. • Army Lt. Col. John M. Brown completed a course in national security in D.C. • Marine Private James E. Davis graduated from recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego. 

40 Years Ago: 1984

Sarah Kay McBride Tubbs, of Port Gibson, died. • Water stood three feet deep at the corner of Monroe and Veto Streets. • Lonnie Friar announced a shoot at the Vicksburg Gun Club Rifle and Pistol Range.

30 Years Ago: 1994

Vicksburg native, H.J Jennings, 70, was landing small roles in movies and TV miniseries while he was living in Texas.

20 Years Ago: 2004

A Port Gibson woman admitted to burning her boyfriend with an acid-like substance while he was at work. 

10 Years Ago: 2014

Miss Mississippi Jasmine Murray credited her love of pageantry and the Miss Mississippi organization with opening doors for her future. • The Warren Central cross country team held a glow run. • A Vicksburg man was charged with attempted aggravated assault after he shot his roommate.
