100 Years Ago: 1924

Vicksburg’s hitting was weak and Brookhaven won on the baseball diamond. • The Masons gave a water carnival at Mint Springs Park. • Sue Kelly was home after spending a month in Indiana.

90 Years Ago: 1934

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cashman left for New York, where they would set sail for Europe. • Katie Voelinger died.  • Julia Billitz was ill at the Infirmary. 

80 Years Ago: 1944

Mrs. Earl Jaquith and her children returned to their home in Natchez. • Mrs. Emmitt Ward and her son left for a visit in Houston. • Luther Nelson, from Houston,  was in Vicksburg visiting relatives.

70 Years Ago: 1954

L.E. Rollison passed away. • Alex Brunini was named a director of O’Neill-McNamara Hardware Company. • Mr. and Mrs. Keith Williams were visiting in New Orleans.

60 Years Ago: 1964

Mrs. Don Remmert died in New Orleans. • W.C. Baggett, a resident of Rolling Fork, died in Denver. • Services were held for A. J. Martin. • Mr. and Mrs. Lee Anderson and their children were visiting in Memphis. • Services were held for Van Allen Sr., of Edwards.

50 Years Ago: 1974

Vicksburg’s Melody Reed was a swimsuit winner at Miss Mississippi. • James Deason was promoted to Army Sgt. First Class in Germany. • Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Eatmon announced the arrival of their daughter, Candy. • Army ROTC Cadets Henry D. Melsheimer and John C. Franck received their parachutist badge after they completed a three-week airborne course at Fort Benning, Ga.

40 Years Ago: 1984

Rebecca Bell, of Vicksburg, was named director of affiliate and international liaison for NBC News (Washington D.C.). • Dudley DeVore died. • Mr. and Mrs. G.S. Boozer, of Redwood, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

30 Years Ago: 1994

Amy Catherin Virden, of Vicksburg, and her horse, Soxum Tee, participated in the 24th Annual American Quarter Horse Association’s World Championship in Fort Worth. 

20 Years Ago: 2004

Mary Katherine Brown was preparing to attend her second straight Democratic National Convention in Boston as a delegate.

10 Years Ago: 2014

Scant growth kept school tax hikes likely. • Cub Scouts splashed around at day camp, which was held at the Knights of Columbus. • The Community Garden’s planting was delayed due to inclement weather.
