Blanche Brunini tendered a dance for her guest, Odile Ashford, of New Orleans. • Mrs. Frank S. Shanahan and her son returned from Jackson. • Wallace Berry appeared in “Richard the Lionhearted” at the Alamo Theater.

Fireman Ed Glass was painfully burned while he was extinguishing an auto fire on First East Street. • Lights were installed at the YMCA tennis courts.

80 Years Ago: 1944

Louise Turner assumed her duties as hostess at the USO here. • Sammy Bartling was appointed athletic director at Carr Central High School. • Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Sims and their children were visiting relatives in Alabama.

70 Years Ago: 1954

J.D. Thames was elected president of the Warren County Bar Association. • Lt. Jack C. Stamm, of the 606th AC&W Squadron in Korea, was visiting Japan. • Elizabeth McQueen was vacationing in Washington D.C.

60 Years Ago: 1964

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pajerski and their son, Fred, were visiting New York City. • Mrs. Hardy Jones was honored on her 80th birthday with an open house. • Jerry Worsham was named assistant football coach at St. Aloysius High School. • Rosalie Thomas was vacationing in Biloxi.

50 Years Ago: 1974

The new Miss Mississippi, Carol Diane Bounds, was crowned at ceremonies in Vicksburg. • Richard N. Tennant was promoted to private first class while serving with the 2nd Marine Division. • Ed Buelow’s unique railroad car home was featured on television. • Sherri Evelyn Ables celebrated her second birthday. 

40 Years Ago: 1984

Warren County District 3 Supervisor Z.B. Fry died at the age of 61. • Sara Nohra donated a bus to St. Aloysius High School. • The Vicksburg All Stars competed in the Dixie Boys State Tourney in Meridian.

30 Years Ago: 1994

Gasoline prices were rising in Vicksburg; the average cost of a gallon of regular unleaded gas was $1,096.

20 Years Ago: 2004

Tires and an air conditioner unit were items stolen from a home on Oak Street.

10 Years Ago: 2014

Gold in the Hills was set to wrap its 78th season. • Interns gained hands on experience with the city. • Bethel AME Church was packed for Bethel Concert.
