One of Vicksburg’s modern football traditions celebrated a milestone Saturday.

Nearly 200 children in grades 1-12 came to Vicksburg High’s Memorial Stadium for the 10th annual Malcolm Butler Football Camp. The free camp is hosted by former NFL star and Vicksburg native Malcolm Butler, and has been held each July since 2015.

Butler played cornerback in the NFL from 2014-22 with the New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans, and had 17 career interceptions. He won two Super Bowls with the Patriots, including Super Bowl XLIX which was clinched by his interception at the goal line with less than a minute to go.

Butler’s interception has often been recognized as one of the most iconic plays in NFL history.

Butler said he enjoys hosting the camp each year.

“I know it means a lot to the city of Vicksburg. It means a lot to me and it means a lot to these kids,” Butler said. “I always try to give it back and be a role model and inspire these guys that they can do whatever they want. Hopefully there’s another Malcolm Butler one of these days and I can pass the torch.”
