Vicksburg Fire Chief Derrick Stamps said no one was injured and only a building already being demolished sustained damage during a morning fire at Ergon BioFuels Wednesday.

“They’re tearing that building down,” Stamps said. “It just so happens underground is a film of oil and something struck fire.”

Stamps said Vicksburg Fire Department and other first responders spent “a good bit of time” at the location Wednesday, but added the majority of the work was to ensure the fire did not reignite later in the day.

“It wasn’t a loss, because they’re tearing it down,” he said. “We spent a lot of time there, but that was just being safe and making sure you don’t have a problem later on.”
