Local students receive scholarships from BIG

The 2024 First Mississippi Chapter of Blacks In Government (BIG) Scholarship Committee has announced its two recipients of the annual $250 scholarship for use in fall 2024. 

This year’s recipients are Jordyn Hill and Shantelle Caldwell.

Hill is a 2024 graduate of Vicksburg High School. She is the daughter of Jacquelyn Bright and Robert Hill. She was involved in multiple extracurricular activities, including National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and served as the vice president of the Youth Advisory Board. Hill also is an active member of the NAACP. She will attend Alcorn State University, majoring in pre-nursing. Her mission is to become a successful labor and delivery nurse.

Caldwell is a 2024 honors graduate of Warren Central High School. She is the daughter of Sharon Caldwell. While in high school, she was a member of the National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society and Big Blue Band. She plans to attend Alcorn State University in the fall and major in social work.
