Volunteer of the Week: Carolyn Bingham makes big impact on youth camp

The Volunteer of the Week is Carolyn Bingham. Bingham is a long-time educator and community servant of Vicksburg. For this week’s spotlight, Larry Lundy, business manager for retired NFL star and Vicksburg native Malcolm Butler, sat down with The Post to discuss Bingham’s impact on the organization.
How did Bingham’s volunteering for the Malcolm Butler Football Camp begin?
She was an original volunteer at Malcolm Butler Football Camp when it started. Cynthia Bell was the original Camp Director and when she left to take a job in Arkansas. Ms. Bingham stepped in to be the Camp Director.
How long has Bingham been volunteering with the Malcolm Butler Football Camp?
For the last five years, Bingham has been a selfless volunteer working with the Malcolm Butler camp board and committee, serving 200-300 kids each year.
What is your favorite memory while volunteering for Malcolm Butler Football Camp?
Perhaps my favorite memory is just seeing the smiles on the kids’ faces each year who register, participate in the camp and receive a camp t-shirt, food and book bag.
What would you tell someone who is thinking about volunteering?
If it is weighing on your heart to volunteer, go out there and volunteer. God has put it on your heart and wants you to be a blessing to your community.
What are some of your tasks while volunteering at the Malcolm Butler Football Camp?
Tasks include, but are not limited to, organizing the camp, getting school board approval, working with sponsors, dealing with Malcolm and his team and family.
