Bufkin’s walk-off homer gives Immanuel Baptist church league softball state title

Vicksburg’s Immanuel Baptist Church ascended to a softball state championship.

Gabe Bufkin capped a seventh-inning rally with a two-run walk-off home run to lift Immanuel to an 11-10 victory over Broadmoor Baptist in the championship game of the Mississippi Baptist State Softball Tournament on Saturday.

Immanuel had a 5-1 record in the double-elimination slow-pitch tournament played at Liberty Park in Madison. The field included nine teams from Baptist churches across the state.

In the finals against Broadmoor, Immanuel entered the bottom of the seventh inning trailing 10-8 and then pieced together its winning rally.

Tyler Ingram got it started with a one-out single. He advanced to third base on an error, then scored on another single by Tommy Sherman.

Then it was Bufkin’s turn. He smashed a home run over the center field fence for the 11-10 walk-off victory to claim the title.
