Mrs. Frank Scott returned from Brown’s Well, where she had spent two weeks. • John Chisolm and Hazel Black were married.

Mrs. Martine Shannon and her son, both of Memphis, were visiting Mrs. John Dorsey. • A.E. McCary was visiting his daughter in Shreveport.

Dr. Kate Ely returned from a vacation on the Gulf Coast. • Mrs. J.C. Campbell and her daughter were visiting in Abilene, Texas. • Sallie Emfinger died.

Services were held for Margaret Smith. • Lee Richards died. • Dr. A. M. Regan, a physician from Edwards, passed away.

Jack Smiley died. • Mr. and Mrs. George V. Smith were vacationing in the West. • Col. Joe Clema assumed the post of secretary of the Mississippi River Commission and deputy division engineer for the Lower Mississippi Valley Division.

The Paddlewheelers Dance Club sponsored a benefit dance for the restoration of the Sprague. • Jeri Wanda Fleming, Sharon Lyn Hoxie and Mary Beatrice Logue were awarded scholarships to attend Delta State University. • Lena Griffin celebrated 10 years with the Westinghouse Interior Lighting Division Plant.

Celestine Knox Wilson died. • Summer reading program winners, according to St Francis Xavier Elementary School Principal Sister Paulinus Oakes, were Syd Johnston, Kevin Ferguson, Jeff Harris and Summer Godfrey. • Sanya Jacovia Wesley celebrated her fifth birthday.

The City of Vicksburg purchased the first property at the new convention center site. • Brian McDuff, son of Linwood and Donna McDuff, was the 1994-95 Warren County MSU Alumni Scholarship recipient.

Gov. Haley Barber spoke in Vicksburg about how moving 47,000 people from the state’s Medicaid program to Medicare could save millions by making sure every recipient qualified for benefits.

Vicksburg Marine George Long was presented the Congressional Gold Medal by Senator Thad Cochran. • VWSD electrified teachers and staff with its annual convocation. • VHA supplied families with school supplies.
