Delta, La. – Troopers with Louisiana State Police (LSP) Troop F began investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 20 just west of LA 602 Thursday, just before 8 p.m. The crash claimed the life of an unidentified driver.

LSP said the preliminary investigation revealed a Ford Transit, driven by the unidentified driver, was traveling east on the westbound shoulder of I-20. At the same time, a 2024 Volvo Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) was traveling west in the right westbound lane of I-20. Upon observing the Ford, the driver of the CMV began moving to the left lane. For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the Ford steered into the path of the CMV. As a result, the CMV struck the Ford head-on, causing both vehicles to become engulfed in flames.

The driver of the Ford suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The driver and passenger of the CMV were transported to area hospitals with minor to moderate injuries. Routine toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis.

This crash remains under investigation.
