Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs Jr. on Friday announced the City of Vicksburg will hold a balloon release to celebrate the life and memory of Korey Sims Jr., the 18-year-old resident who was killed Sunday, Aug. 4 in a shooting on Abraham Drive.

The release is scheduled to take place at Washington Street Park Sunday at 7 p.m.

“This heartfelt tribute has been made possible with the approval and assistance of the Vicksburg Police Department, Traffic Department, and Parks and Recreation Department,” city officials said in a statement. “During this difficult time, the mayor asks that everyone continue to keep Korey’s family, friends, and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.”
