100 Years Ago: 1924

Julia Burke, of Memphis, was in Vicksburg visiting Mrs.John Kline. • Mrs. John Monteith returned from visiting relatives in Monroe. • Mrs. W.A. Stanton and her children departed for Biloxi.

90 Years Ago: 1934

Mr. and Mrs. A.D. Harley, of Memphis, were visiting Minnie Palermo. • Mr. and Mrs. Morris Denman returned from an extended stay to the East. • Jean McCaskill returned to her home in Pinola after visiting relatives in Vicksburg. • Bessie Fife, president of the B&PW Club, left for Blue Ridge, N.C.

80 Years Ago: 1944

Mrs. Tom Murphy and her daughter left for a visit to Birmingham. • Mrs. C. E. Drake and her son were visiting her parents, Dr. and Mrs, C.E. Barrett. • E.D. Carter died.

70 Years Ago: 1954

Dr. James Kiely spoke to the Rotary Club about the dangers of polio. • Services were held for Mrs. L.W. Ammerman. • Mr. and Mrs. W.O. Wright announced the birth of their son, Larry.

60 Years Ago: 1964

Bobby and Cooper Morrison were visiting relatives in Jackson. • Ellen Richardson, of Bovina, died. • Services were held for David Lewis.

50 Years Ago: 1974

Mr. and Mrs. Perry Taylor announced the birth of their daughter, Katie Rochelle. • Lester T. Smith was promoted at Fort Hood. • Mary Flowers received her master of education degree from Southern University in Baton Rouge.

40 Years Ago: 1984

The Warren County school district and one of its bus drivers were sued for $150,000. • Robin Stewart, 10; Elijah Stewart, 8; Roderick White, 6; Timothy Clark, 13; and Roderick Richardson, 6, of the Locust Street area, used cardboard to stage an impromptu break dance exhibition.

30 Years Ago: 1994

The 55 and Alive/Mature Driving class was offered by the local chapter of AARP.

20 Years Ago: 2004

Vicksburg and Warren County officials were debating a proposed mutual aid agreement that would allow the Vicksburg Fire Department to respond to fires outside the municipality limis. 

10 Years Ago: 2014

Vicksburg received a grant for recycling. • Area athletes circulated a petition for a sports and recreation complex.
