Jackie Lou Carpenter James

Jackie Lou Carpenter James passed away Thursday, August 8, at Merit-Health River Region Medical Center.

She was 68. Jackie was born May 31, 1956, in Chatom, Ala. and was the daughter of the late Sidney L. Carpenter and Lottie Mae Carpenter.

She began her career at Waterways Experiment Station and remained there until retirement. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.

Jackie is survived by her husband of 38 years, Sammy James; her son, Shawn Culbertson; and two stepsons, Christopher James and Chad James; four grandchildren, Tori Marie Culbertson, Madison Leigh Culbertson, Kaleb Culbertson and Callie Culbertson; sister, Sherry Cahill (Dennis); and brother, Sidney L. “Randy” Carpenter Jr. (Edwina); and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives, to include her sisters-in-law, Pearl and Katie.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Legacy Nursing Home for their care and support of Jackie for the past several months.

Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
