A new bakery has come to Washington Street. Pink Sugar Bakery, owned by Ariel Wilson Hardy, officially opened its doors Saturday, July 27. True to its name, the bakery is a palace of pink, from its cakes to its decor.

The bakery primarily sells sweet treats such as cakes, brownies, cookies, cheesecakes, and puddings. Special-order cakes are also available for birthdays, weddings, and more.

Pink Sugar has sold out every day since opening, Hardy said, adding they sometimes sell out within the first 30 minutes of opening.

“I would say the most unexpected thing was the crowd’s reaction,” Hardy said. “I didn’t think we would be so busy. Our business hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.. We haven’t made it past 3 p.m. I would honestly say that on Saturday, we were sold out within the first 30 minutes. There was nothing in here. That was unexpected. I didn’t think there was going to be as much foot traffic as there is, but it’s been very busy.”

Work hasn’t slowed down for Hardy and her employees. She said being a new business owner comes with many challenges and hurdles, but the excitement of it all has allowed her to overcome them all.

“It’s exciting. It’s exhausting.” Hardy said. “I would say I was doing 16 hours every day during the first week. It was a lot. The last two days that we’ve been closed have been used to get a schedule and a strategy on how to prep more; how to make sure that we have enough stuff to not sell out so fast, so that everyone is able to enjoy everything.”

With Pink Sugar’s demand clearly established, Hardy said she and her team are dedicated to navigating the busy opening period and ensuring customers continue to receive top-quality treats.
