Alice O’Brien left for Cooper’s Well. • Mr. and Mrs. Walter H. Rayner and their baby returned from the Gulf Coast. • E. Lee Rand and John Ryan left for D.C. and New York.
90 Years Ago: 1934
Father H.W. Rockwood arrived in Vicksburg and visited with his family. • Isa Feith was visiting her daughter in Birmingham. • The banking rooms of the First National Bank and Trust Company were being redecorated.
80 Years Ago: 1944
Mrs. T.W. McCoy left for Greenville and Grenada. • Anna Knox assumed the duties as secretary of the First Baptist Church. • Brother William was named principal at St Aloysius High School.
70 Years Ago: 1954
Mrs. Ruby Short and Mrs. Jack Ogle were vacationing in New Mexico. • Frank Barber was a patient at the Vicksburg Hospital. • The Rev. and Mrs. Warwick Aiken returned from a vacation in North Carolina.
60 Years Ago: 1964
The 13th Hydraulics Division Conference of the American Society of Civil Engineers opened in Vicksburg. • Services were held for Merion Smith, of Utica. • Services were held for Mrs. Lane Busick.
50 Years Ago: 1974
Mrs. T.A. Jamison and Mrs. F.H. Nolte returned from a three-week tour of the West Coast. • Mr. and Mrs. Robert Shiers became the parents of a son, John Palmer. • The Clair Smith family left on their self-built trimaran to sail around the world.
40 Years Ago: 1984
A fatal accident brought about the first arrest and charge under the new drunk driving statute. • Chip Bryant was featured in The Post while working at the “Small World” daycare center with his mother and her co-worker. • Adam Joshua Cook celebrated his second birthday.
30 Years Ago: 1994
Carolyn “Betty” Fowler, who taught at Grove Street Elementary, was nominated as the Vicksburg Warren School District’s representative for the Mississippi Teacher of the Year.
20 Years Ago: 2004
Attorneys representing a former Sharkey County judge accused of witness intimidation were withdrawing the motion that sought bond on those charges.
10 Years Ago: 2014
Tatum was out and Tate was in as E-911 director. • Vicksburg predicted changes in the cemetery ordinances. • Michael Ware was set to become the anchor of the WC Vikings’ defense.
