Softball Roundup: St. Al slides past Tallulah Academy with late burst

One good offensive burst helped St. Aloysius’ softball team maintain its winning ways.

Mageigh Haller doubled in two runs and scored another during a four-run rally in the fifth inning, and St. Al slid past Tallulah Academy 9-7 on Tuesday.

Ruthie Britton, Mallory Spencer and Madelyn Kavanaugh had three hits apiece for St. Al (6-3), which finished with 13 hits as a team. Britton doubled and drove in two runs, and Spencer had a double and one RBI.

Madison Spencer was 2-for-4 with a triple and one RBI, and Presley Brister doubled and scored a run.

Tallulah Academy tied it 5-5 in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI groundout by Rachel Florice. St. Al then stormed ahead in its turn at bat.

The first three batters reached base before Haller doubled to right field to plate two runs and put the Lady Flashes ahead. Megan Theriot followed with a sacrifice fly and Haller scored on an error to push it to 9-5.

Tallulah (4-6-1) mounted a comeback in the top of the seventh. Emily Fortenberry was hit by a pitch and Kaylyn Ray singled, and they scored on a wild pitch and sacrifice fly, respectively.

Halley Hopkins hit a two-out double to bring the tying run to the plate, but Mallory Spencer got Elle Moberley to pop out to end the game.

Spencer pitched a complete game for St. Al. She walked five batters and gave up three hits while striking out four.

Fortenberry scored four runs for Tallulah, while Ray was 2-for-2 with a double and three runs scored. Florice had three RBIs and Haleigh Grace Malone two.

St. Al won for the third time in four games. It’ll play at Jackson Academy Wednesday at 5:15 p.m., in its third game in three days.

Tallulah Academy lost its second game in a row after winning the previous four. It will host Adams County Christian School Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Jackson Academy 20, Porter’s Chapel 4
Dallys Alexander had a double and four RBIs, Jade Jenkins walked three times and scored four runs, and Jackson Academy topped Porter’s Chapel Academy on Tuesday.

Jackson Academy only had two hits, but used 12 walks and 10 hit batters to provide a steady flow of baserunners. It scored 12 runs in the first inning and eight more in the second.

Mia Abdo singled, walked, and scored two runs for PCA (4-6). Marley Bufkin and Lauren Rae Davis each scored one run and drove in another.

PCA will be back in action Thursday at 7 p.m., on the road at Wilkinson County Christian Academy.
