Quin Brackett was named the city sanitary official. • Mrs. W.S. Smith, of St. Louis, arrived for a visit with Alderman and Mrs. J.M. Buchanan. • Jesse Young went to California to visit her sister, Mrs. Jaffrey.

80 Years Ago: 1944

Maj. John Goodrum was home after many months overseas. • Mrs. R.L. Crook left for a visit in Birmingham. • Mollie A Casey died. • Mr.and Mrs. Keith Williams were visiting New Orleans.

70 Years Ago: 1954

Sister Mary Eva, RSM, was named principal of St. Michael’s Elementary School in Biloxi. • Services were held for C. Gordon Clark. • Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Sadler and their children were visiting New Orleans.

60 Years Ago: 1964

Mr. and Mrs. John Bryant announced the birth of their daughter, Barbara Ann. • Mr. and Mrs. M.M. Hawkins and their children were vacationing in Dallas. • Mr. and Mrs. John L. Scott announced the birth of their son, Donald Wayne. • Mary Mansell left for Atlanta, where she would teach junior high school. 

50 Years Ago: 1974

Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Lee Adams were the parents of a son, Johnny Lee Jr. • Gladys Healey returned from a visit to Texas City, Texas. • Mrs. Allen Hynum, Mrs. Ron Miller and Mrs H.S. Kelly were honored at a luncheon by the Oak Park Garden Club.

40 Years Ago: 1984

Those who celebrated their birthdays included Carrie Jeanette Wade (1) and Don Hill (5). • Roger Major Walker entered the race for supervisor. • Karla Rae Cato and Francis Lee Jackson announced their wedding plans.
