Tallulah Academy made sure a brief hiccup did not turn into a memorable comeback.

The Trojans regrouped after giving up two quick touchdowns late in the first half and pulled away in the second to beat Tensas Academy 48-26 in their football season opener on Friday.

Tallulah jumped out to a 28-6 lead before Tensas’ burst cut it to 28-18 at halftime.

“We just had two lapses and they scored two touchdowns right before the half and tightened it back up. Then we came back in the second half and just started grinding,” Tallulah coach Bart Wood said.

Tight end Denton Ray caught two touchdown passes for Tallulah, covering 54 and 60 yards, and J.T. McDaniel scored two TDs as well. Luke Moberley threw three touchdown passes.

Tallulah will play at home against Riverdale on Aug. 23 at 7 p.m.

“We were very happy,” Wood said. “We’re a young team. We made a lot of mistakes, but we did a lot of good things.”
