The Vicksburg-Warren County Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals group is teaming up with a state agency to make a local difference.

The Young Professionals are joining forces with Extra Table, a statewide nonprofit food bank, in order to bag, pack and distribute 10,000 meals to food pantries throughout Warren County. The goal is set to be accomplished using Extra Full, a program chamber officials called an innovative new one-pot meal service for Mississippi.

The Young Professionals are asking for donations, as well as volunteer hours, from the public in order to help meet the goal. Donations of red beans and rice are needed as are volunteers to help bag food. Chamber officials said one hour of service plus 100 volunteers would equal 10,000 meals ready to be delivered to locals in need.

The bag-and-pack event is scheduled to take place Thursday, Sept. 26, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Crawford Street United Methodist Church, located at 900 Crawford St. in Vicksburg.
