Alice Phelps

Funeral services for Alice Phelps, 87, who died Saturday, August 17, 2024, at her residence in Vicksburg, MS will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 25, 2024 at Jackson Street M.B. Church, 1416 Jackson Street, Vicksburg, MS with Rev. Trollars Moore officiating. Burial will be in the Hermanville Cemetery in Hermanville, MS with Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. of Port Gibson in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be Friday, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel and Saturday, from 1 p.m. until service time at the church.

She was a member of Jackson Street M.B. Church where she was in the choir, served on the Trustee Board, and served on the food ministry. She retired from Great Lakes Navel Base after working for over 30 years. After relocating to Mississippi, she worked at Ameristar Casino.

Mrs. Phelps was preceded in death by her husband, Sharper Phelps; her parents, Frederick Matthews and Annie B. Halbert Matthews; and six siblings.

She is survived by two sons, Frederick (Eleanor) Springer of Tucson, AZ; and Douglas Springer of Belmont, MI; a daughter, Sandra Phelps of Vicksburg, MS; three grandchildren, Timothy (April) Springer of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; LeAnne Springer of Kissimmee, FL; and DeVon Springer of Tucson, AZ; two great-grandsons, Harrison and Anderson Springer both of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; a brother-in-law, Robert Phelps of Crete, IL; three sisters-in-law, Bernice Dobbins and Dora Phelps, both of Hermanville, MS; and Lee Sarah (Robert) Evans of Hattiesburg, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, neighbors, and friends.
