Florence Sims left for Flora. • Cassie Jewell went to Winona to visit with friends and relatives. • John Hermann made a brief visit to Natchez.

Mrs. G.W. Ford and her family returned from Mobile and would again make Vicksburg their home. • Mr. and Mrs. R.L. Allen returned from a visit to Chicago. • Frank Muirhead, who had been ill, was reported as improved.

80 Years Ago: 1944

Dr. Guy Jarrett and his sons left for a vacation trip to Chicago. • James M. Stigell, a prominent Rolling Fork planter, died. • George Chaney was elected city judge, succeeding Judge P.C. Canizaro.

70 Years Ago: 1954

Ben W. LeTourneau was named manager of the Vicksburg plant of R. G. LeTourneau Inc. • Eddie Brunini was injured when he was hit by an automobile. • Mr. and Mrs. A. A. McMullin announced the birth of their daughter, Cynthia.

60 Years Ago: 1964

Mr. and Mrs. Pete Frazier and their children were vacationing on the Gulf Coast. • Daisy S. Leist died. • T.H. Hood died. • Mr. and Mrs. Clark McNair announced the birth of their son, Andrew Clark.

50 Years Ago: 1974

James B. Livingston was named administrator of public relations for International Paper Company’s Vicksburg Mill. • Carolyn Marie Skinner received the Alexander Farrar Watkins Award from Millsaps College. • The Vicksburg Band Parents Club built a new concession stand at the Vicksburg Stadium. • Olive Jarvis died.

40 Years Ago: 1984

Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Dollar announced the birth of a daughter, Kassidy LaRae. • A.J. McDuff Sr. died. • Mr. and Mrs. Charles S. Jones were the parents of a daughter, Stephanie.

30 Years Ago: 1994

The stockholders of First National Financial Corp. voted in favor of merging the local bank with Trustmark National Bank of Jackson.

20 Years Ago: 2004

The Vicksburg Police Department was looking to change its image with new uniforms, patches and new logo designs for the patrol cars.

10 Years Ago: 2014

The Warren County Parks and Recreation Department was in danger of violating the Open Meetings Act when they held a closed-door meeting. • Kevin Buck was arrested and charged with kidnapping.
