Lillian Mize returned from visits to Marksville and Alexandria, La. • Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Platte were visiting Dallas City, Ill. • Martha Pinkston returned from a visit to Holly Bluff. • Mrs. F.H. Buchanan returned from Memphis.

90 Years Ago: 1934

Mr. and Mrs. E.M. Joel were visiting friends and relatives in Ohio. • Mrs. J.H. Ables was recovering from surgery. • Dr. Kate Ely returned from Memphis.

80 Years Ago: 1944

Winnie Cole was participating in the All-American Open Golf Tournament in Chicago. • Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hayman returned from a visit to Ocean Springs. • Corp. Mike George, with the U.S. Army Air Force, was in Vicksburg on furlough.

70 Years Ago: 1954

Mrs. Laurence J. Clark returned from a trip up North. • Abe Meyer was a patient at Mercy Hospital. • Services were held for Sammy Burkhalter, an Anguilla infant.  • Mr. and Mrs. M.M. Carlson and their children moved into their new home on Edna Drive.

60 Years Ago: 1964

The Rev. Frank Cocran, who was recently chaplain at Mercy Hospital, left for his new assignment as director of vocations in Ireland. • Annette Millett received a master’s degree in education from Mississippi State University. • Mrs. G.L. Levy was visiting relatives in Denver.

50 Years Ago: 1974

Anthony P. Franco, retired captain of the Vicksburg Fire Department, died. • The Vicksburg Boat Racing Association sponsored a Fireman’s Benefit Race. • Sam Glasscock, a retired engineer for the Illinois Central Railroad, died.

40 Years Ago: 1984

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Leon Washington announced the birth of their daughter, Camelia Nicole. • Shelby Ray Palmer died at 52.  • Jean O’Neil, an ecologist at WES, was installed as president of the Mississippi Chapter of the Wildlife Society.

30 Years Ago: 1994

The body of a Issaquena County man was pulled from a private lake after he fell from his boat while fishing.

20 Years Ago: 2004

A white gold wedding band and a white gold engagement ring with diamonds were reported missing from a home on West Drive after the home was burglarized.

10 Years Ago: 2014

Circuit Clerk Greg Pelz and Election Commissioner Elva Tolliver were doused by ice water after they accepted the Ice Bucket Challenge. • Fans braved the heat for the Red Carpet Bowl.
