Warren Central’s volleyball team put in a full day of work on Saturday and came home happy.

The Lady Vikes won four of their five matches and finished as the runner-up in the Gold bracket at the Pearl Varsity Tournament.

Warren Central swept through its pool, beating Richland and Wayne County 2-0 and West Jones 2-1, to earn the No. 2 seed in the Gold — or championship — bracket.

WC beat West Lauderdale 2-1 before losing 2-0 to Union in the title match.

“That’s the first time we’ve ever made a Gold bracket championship match,” Warren Central coach Matthew Gullett said. “All of the girls who traveled with us today played and contributed. I couldn’t be more proud of them. We played some very competitive matches against some solid competition and got some solid wins.”

Warren Central (9-7-1) will play two MHSAA Region 2-6A matches next week. It will be at home against Callaway on Aug. 27, and at crosstown rival Vicksburg on Aug. 29. Both junior varsity matches begin at 5:15 p.m., and the varsity at 6:15.
