100 Years Ago: 1924

Theresa Coccora returned from Cooper’s Well. • Mrs. B.E. Griffen was seriously ill. • Mr. and Mrs. William Raworth and their family returned from the Ozark Mountains, where they had spent the summer.

90 Years Ago: 1934

Mrs. Frank Penley Jr. and his son from Fort Peck, Mont. were in Vicksburg visiting. • Mrs. U. Bucci, Bobby Bucci and Mrs. Branciere returned from Lexington, Ky. • Sam Switzer and his mother returned from a cruise to the West Indies.

80 Years Ago: 1944

D.P. Waring was named chairman of the Navy Day programs for Warren, Sharkey, and Claiborne counties. • Mrs. J.D. Thames Sr. returned from a trip to the West. • Mrs. Mary Fritzgerald Lowden left for a visit with her sister in Philadelphia.

70 Years Ago: 1954

Frank Everett was the guest speaker at the Vicksburg Rotary Club meeting. • Services were held for Stacey Hall. • John Young, an Edwards resident, died.

60 Years Ago: 1964

Dr. A.P. Messina died. • Mr. and Mrs. Philip Watson Jr., of St. Joseph, announced the birth of their son, Scott. • Mr. and Mrs. Landy Teller attended the summer session at the University of Mississippi.

50 Years Ago: 1974

Sharon Hoxie was chosen as drum major for Delta State University’s marching band. • Linda Anne Hooper was awarded a superior scholarship award by the University of Mississippi.

40 Years Ago: 1984

Kinderoo the Kangaroo, the national mascot for Kindercare daycare franchises, gave Gladys Strawbridge, 82, a kiss while visiting the Vicksburg Convalescent Home. • Services were held for Josephine Morgan, of Edwards.

30 Years Ago: 1994

St Aloysius High School opened the 31st Red Carpet Bowl when they shut out Enterprise 53-0 at Memorial Stadium.

20 Years Ago: 2004

Vicksburg officials planned to present a $30.8 million election-year budget that would increase spending, but not taxes.

10 Years Ago: 2014

Kenneth Parrish received the 2014 Program Manager of the Year for the Mississippi Valley Division. • The Vikings looked to their next opponent after a Red Carpet Bowl win.  • Virginia Lee Cora, 75, was the oldest competitor in the Gator Bait Endurance Challenge.
