FLOWOOD — Warren Central and Northwest Rankin packed a lot of action into only two quarters.
Nash Morgan threw a touchdown pass and then ran for a 28-yard score late in the second quarter to give Warren Central a 21-14 victory over Northwest Rankin in a preseason scrimmage on Friday.
The teams played two quarters with their varsity rosters, and then two 15-play series with the junior varsity as they tuned up for next week’s regular-season openers.
Morgan threw an 18-yard TD pass to Maddox Lynch in the first quarter to put the Vikings ahead 14-7. Northwest Rankin tied it, however, with a 2-yard TD run by Jeremy Hadden in the second, before Morgan broke out of the pocket for his TD run.
Last season, Morgan, a sophomore, had nearly 1,300 yards passing last season but minus-56 rushing.
Gavin Davenport also scored on a 10-yard run for Warren Central. That touchdown was set up by defensive back Rickey Neal’s interception early in the first quarter.
Kicker Jonah Artman went 3-for-3 on PATs.
