Donald “Butch” Bowman Nasif, 65, passed away peacefully Friday, August 16, at his home in Vicksburg surrounded by his loving family.

Butch was born July 15, 1959, to Bobbie and George Nasif in Vicksburg, where he spent most of his life. He graduated from Vicksburg High School in 1977. After attending both Ole Miss and LSU and briefly living in Greenville, Miss. Butch returned to Vicksburg to join the family business, Vicksburg Specialty.

Butch was an incredible musician with a deep-rooted passion for playing the guitar. For years, he could be found every Wednesday night at The Biscuit Company, where he hosted an open-mic night with his band. Butch had a unique gift for bringing people together through music, and his performances were as much about the camaraderie and the joy of gathering as they were about the songs themselves. Everyone loved Butch, and Butch loved everyone. He leaves behind a legacy of music, laughter, and deep, enduring friendships.

Butch is survived by his two children, Carrie Nasif Osteen of Hutchinson Island, Fla., and Millan Nasif of Vicksburg; two beloved granddaughters, Ayla and Mia Osteen; and four siblings, George Nasif (Judy), Greg Nasif (Linda), Amy Heath (Ronnie), and Julie Litle (Bob). He was preceded in death by his parents, Bobbie and George Nasif.

Butch’s magnetic personality, love for life, and the joy he brought to others will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. His family and friends will always remember him as a kind, generous soul whose joy and music filled every room he entered.

Butch’s presence in our lives will be dearly missed, but his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. If you would like to honor Butch’s memory, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Contributions can be made online at www.ilovebutch.com.

A music-filled, jubilant celebration of life will be held at a later date.
