Jovita Rebecca Hopkins Boggan left for her last great venture Monday, August 26, from Simpson General Hospital in Mendenhall, Miss. She was born in Memphis May 24, 1928, to Elmer Ezell Hopkins and Gladys Blanche Duckworth Hopkins, the first of six girls.

On March 5, 1948, she married Chesley Mims Boggan of Pinola. They were married for nearly 57 years and reared three children, Anita, Garry, and Ronda.

Jovita was preceded in death by her husband, Mims; parents, Elmer and Gladys; sister, Dina Sewell; and several brothers-in-law.

Remaining to mourn her loss are daughters, Anita (Ed) Schilling and Ronda (Larry) Wolfe of Vicksburg; and son, Garry (Connie) Boggan of League City, Texas; sisters, Rita Wigginton of Pinola, Ann Womack of Magee, Miriam Hopkins and Abbie (Jaris) Patrick of Mendenhall; grandchildren, Amanda (Jake) Brice, Lenora (Robbie) Hamilton, Jeremy (Olivia) Wolfe, Brigid (Ryan) Bell, Sean (Shelby) Boggan and Jasmine (Joe) Fleece; great grandchildren, Iris Hamilton, Collin Bell, Harper Fleece, Waverly Wolfe, JR Fleece, and Hallie Wolfe. Jovita also left behind her cousin, Hopkins Phillips and his family; and a plethora of nieces and nephews and their families. Of special note are longtime friends Mary Nicholson and Betty Smith.

Services will be held Sunday afternoon, September 1, at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Mendenhall. Family visitation starts at 1 p.m. with general visitation starting at 2 p.m., and the service will begin at 3 p.m. Burial will be at Macedonia Baptist Church. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
