The first full Friday night schedule kicked off the 2024 high school football season in Mississippi on Aug. 30.
For the only time this season, all four Warren County teams — Vicksburg High, Warren Central, Porter’s Chapel and St. Aloysius — played home games on the same night.
Although it wasn’t a great night on the field for the local teams — Porter’s Chapel was the only one that won, 22-8 vs. Prentiss Christian — it was a festive way to begin the season. Please enjoy this selection of photos from the staff of The Vicksburg Post who were on the sidelines covering Friday’s action.
Vicksburg lost 20-6 to Holmes County Central and Warren Central fell 26-20 to Clinton, both in the Red Carpet Bowl. Cathedral defeated St. Al 34-10 in the latest installment of a Catholic school rivalry series that started in 1938.
Next Friday, Sept. 6, Warren Central will be at home against Pearl, while the other three teams are all on the road. Vicksburg goes to Jackson to face Forest Hill; St. Al heads to Pelahatchie to play East Rankin Academy; and Porter’s Chapel is at Riverdale Academy in Coushatta, Louisiana.
All of next week’s games begin at 7 p.m.
