Alvena Rockwood returned from Cooper’s Well. • Lucy Hackler, who was very ill, was improving. • E.M. Joel was married to Viola Smith. • Lee Taylor, who was a conductor on the A&V Railroad for 50 years, died in Meridian.
90 Years Ago: 1934
H.B. Montgomery and J.B. Rogers attended a meeting for General Electric dealers in New Orleans. • Mrs. John Maranto and her son, both of Rolling Fork, were in the city visiting relatives. • Henry Baer and Sam Shirley, of Baer and Brothers, were back from the Eastern Markets.
80 Years Ago: 1944
John Stanton, of Cincinnati, was visiting Mr. and Mrs. R.M. Kelly. • Bobby Sneed, with the Navy, was in Vicksburg visiting. • Barbara Halpin was injured from a fall at her home.
70 Years Ago: 1954
George Miller passed away. • Jack Liddel’s funeral services were held in Tallulah. • Mr. and Mrs. John Thomas announced the birth of a son, John Jr. • Barbara Stanwyck starred in “The Moonlighter” at the Rivoli Drive-In Theater.
60 Years Ago: 1964
Alex Burns passed away. • Mrs. R.R. Morrison Sr. returned after a two-week tour of Mexico. • John Rosserof, Dyersburg, Tenn., was in Vicksburg visiting relatives. • O.W. Jones, a former resident, died in El Paso.
50 Years Ago: 1974
Mike Ezell won the Men’s Club Golf Championship at Openwood Plantation Golf Course. • Ellis “Judge” Willis, of Edwards, died. • Miss Mississippi Diane Bounds arrived in Atlantic City to compete in the Miss America Pageant. • Mr. and Mrs. Art Kilpatrick, of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Hal E. Valliant.
40 Years Ago: 1984
Noreen Woods Aucoin, a native of Vicksburg and a 1940 graduate of Carr Central High School, died in Shreveport. • John Milton Grimes celebrated his second birthday. • Dan Allen Jackson died.

Final tax levies were adopted by the city and county governments showing a slight tax break for vehicle and property owners.
20 Years Ago: 2004
Citizens planning on running for school board had until the end of the month to sign up.

The city closed the railroad crossing at Speed Street. • City Clerk Walter Osborne was honored by the Mississippi State Personnel Board and Gov. Phil Bryant with the Excellence in Government Award.
