Brother Thomas was named athletic director at St Aloysius. • A marriage license was issued to D.M. Williams and Ella Brumfield. • W.H. Burkett, of New Orleans, and Jeannie Slater were married. • P.W. Mulivihill died.
90 Years Ago: 1934
Mrs. Z.M. Davidson and Mr. and Mrs. William Porter enjoyed a trip to New Orleans, as well as to places along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. • Mr. and Mrs. R.R. Morrison and their children motored to Corinth.
80 Years Ago: 1944
George M. Feeney Jr., with the Army Air Corp, was killed in action.
70 Years Ago: 1954
W.H. Martin was elected to the Mississippi Senate. • Services were held for A.A. Gamble Sr. • Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Tiblier announced the birth of their daughter. • Fred Groome left to attend Millsaps College. • Mr. and Mrs. B.M. Welsch announced the birth of their daughter, Marilyn. • John Collier, Corps of Engineers employee, retired.
60 Years Ago: 1964
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Harmon announced the birth of their son, Maurice. • Services were held for O.W. Jones. • Nancy Martin died. • Leona Powers, of Utica, died. • St Aloysius fell to Brandon 13-7 in its season opener.
50 Years Ago: 1974
Mr. and Mrs. Joe T. Smith announce the birth of their daughter, Kimberly Dawn. • Carol Jean Winston was selected as a Freshman Counselor at USM. • Jefferson Strong retired after more than 20 years with the Westinghouse Electric Corporation. • Sue Anne Cummins died unexpectedly at 22. • Van Hinman was directing a Jackson Little Theatre play.
40 Years Ago: 1984
“Sue Shelby Day,” was celebrated at Michael’s Jewelry in honor of Shelby’s 20 years of service. • Karl Neal, Warren Central fullback, was featured as an outstanding football player. • A Billy Graham television special aired.
30 Years Ago: 1994
After years of work, a ribbon cutting and picnic opened Riverside Park.
20 Years Ago: 2004
New Come and See M.B. Church in Port Gibson held its annual Revival.
10 Years Ago: 2014
Incumbents for the offices on the school board, as well as circuit clerk and constable, were opposed in the upcoming election. • Hinds CC was named as one of the 100 schools considered a degree-producing school.
