Eagles lock down Riverdale for second win in a row

Porter’s Chapel Academy kept up its high-scoring ways on offense, and is starting a low-scoring trend on defense.

Jase Jung rushed for 305 yards and four touchdowns and also threw a touchdown pass, and Conley Johnston led a stout defensive effort with 14 tackles as Porter’s Chapel throttled Riverdale Academy 42-6 on Friday.

PCA (2-2) allowed 132 points in losing its first two games this season, but has held its last two opponents to a total of 14 and won both.

Hunter Simms had 12 tackles and two tackles for loss, while Jung and Henry Slayton had seven tackles each. Jung also had an interception.

“We really were bend, don’t break tonight. They moved the ball a little on us and we tightened down when they got close and created a lot of negative plays to get some stops,” PCA coach Blake Purvis said. “Another great defensive effort with guys flying to the football and making plays.”

Jung was flying all over the field — as usual — on the offensive side. He became the first player in Warren County history to have two 300-yard rushing games, and the fifth to surpass the 4,000-yard mark for their careers.

Jung has 1,354 yards already this season, and 4,064 in his career. He is 16 yards short of the PCA school record set by Earl Johnson from 1974-76.

“You never run out of things to say. Sometimes it may be a broken record, but that guy’s earned it. He’s been here five or six years now. It’s his time to step up and shoulder the load,” Purvis said.

Auston Moore contributed 79 rushing yards and a touchdown, and Chad Fuson caught a 60-yard TD pass from Jung.
PCA only led 14-6 at halftime, then ripped off 28 points in the second half to pull away for a comfortable victory.

“We wore them down and tacked on two in the fourth quarter to close them out,” Purvis said.
PCA will be back in Vicksburg next Friday for its homecoming game against Humphreys Academy.
