100 Years Ago: 1924
Grace Toombs departed for Chattawa, Miss. to resume her studies. • Charlie Hude was home from Biloxi. • R.V. Turcotte was home ill.
90 Years Ago: 1934
The national re-employment office moved to the Tillman Building. • Bernard Foster, G.W. Hogaboom and Hugh Calvin attended the funeral of Warren Ferguson. • The Vicksburg Little Theater presented “The Judge and the Gypsy.”
80 Years Ago: 1944
Henry Hogaboom was in Vicksburg from Honduras visiting his parents. • Lt. F.M. Smith, U.S. Navy reservist, was in Vicksburg to visit his parents.
70 Years Ago: 1954
Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Robinson returned from a vacation in Pennsylvania. • Mr.and Mrs. Joseph Perkins announced the birth of their daughter. • Services were held for Eliza Murray.
60 Years Ago: 1964
Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Blackwell announced the birth of their daughter, Paula. • Dr. and Mrs. Lucian Ferris and their children returned from their vacation in Santa Rosa Island, Fla. • Harry Hardin was a patient at Mercy Hospital.
50 Years Ago: 1974
George Booth, 91, died. • Editors of the St. Aloysius High School newspaper, The Thunderbolt, were announced to be David Baylot and Matt Lusco. • Julia Arnold presented the Vicksburg Theatre Guild with an original program from the first production of “Gold in The Hills.” • Council 9, led by Earl Johnson and Mark Buys, defeated Union 32 to 6.
40 Years Ago: 1984
Christina Nicole Lewis celebrated her first birthday. • Porter’s Chapel Academy was presented with a flag that had been flown over the U.S. Capitol Building, as well as a certificate signed by Sen. Thad Cochran. • Services were held for Dan Allen Jackson.
30 Years Ago: 1994
Haley Nosser of Vicksburg placed second in the Pony 48-inch and under junior class at the District 4-H Horse Show in Jackson.
20 Years Ago: 2004
Vicksburg and Warren County officials approved spending plans for the next fiscal year, totaling $61 million. This imposed a countywide tax increase on real estate and personal property
10 Years Ago: 2014
Jack Cristil, a beloved Mississippi State broadcaster, passed away. • The Vikings turned on the turnover machine against the Vicksburg Gators.
