A vehicle that quickly became fully involved Thursday in the parking lot of a business on Letitia Street was just as quickly squelched by the Vicksburg Fire Department.

“The fire originated in the engine compartment and quickly spread to the interior, eventually engulfing the vehicle,” Vicksburg Fire Chief Derrick Stamps explained.

Stamps said the vehicle’s owner was already looking for  help when the fire began.

“The driver experienced car trouble, parked the vehicle and left to seek help,” he said. “During this time, the vehicle caught fire. Bystanders at a local business tried to extinguish it with a fire extinguisher, but their efforts were unsuccessful. As a result, the fire department was promptly contacted for assistance.”

Stamps said the fire was quickly brought under control and there were no injuries as a result.
