NEW ORLEANS — The good times were rolling and the Saints were marching into the end zone all day long Sunday.

Derek Carr completed 19 of 23 passes for 200 yards and three touchdowns, and Alvin Kamara had 110 total yards and a TD as the New Orleans Saints crushed the Carolina Panthers 47-10 in the Superdome.

The Saints won their sixth consecutive season opener, the longest active streak in the NFL. They scored on their first nine possessions, and the 47 points is a franchise record for an opener. The NFL scoring record for Week 1 is 62 points, by the Atlanta Falcons against the Saints in 1973.

The offense also had 180 rushing yards in an outstanding debut for new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak.

Kamara finished with 83 rushing yards and a 1-yard touchdown in the third quarter, and caught five passes for 27 yards. It was the 50th time in 102 career games that he has had at least 100 yards from scrimmage.

Carr, who struggled through injuries and criticism during an up-and-down first season in New Orleans, looked well worth the four-year, $150 million contract he received when he came to the Big Easy as a free agent in 2023.

Carr threw a 59-yard touchdown pass to Rashid Shaeed on the first series of the game, and two more TDs of 3 yards to Foster Moreau and 16 yards to Juwan Johnson before halftime.

Along with three field goals by Blake Grupe — from 57, 44 and 52 yards — the Saints had a commanding 30-3 lead at halftime. Grupe also kicked a 39-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

Carr gave way to backup Jake Haener midway through the fourth quarter.

Carolina quarterback Bryce Young was 13-of-30 passing for 161 yards with two interceptions, and was sacked three times. The Panthers also lost a fumble.

The Saints go on the road next Sunday to play the Dallas Cowboys.
