St. Al’s Edwards wins French Camp Invitational cross country meet

Samantha Edwards notched the first cross country victory of her senior season on Saturday.

The St. Aloysius runner clocked a time of 19 minutes, 50.93 seconds to beat 89 other runners and win the French Camp Invitational girls 5K championship.

Edwards won two races as a sophomore and finished sixth at the MAIS Class 5A state meet last season. She finished second in this season’s first meet in Natchez in August.

Edwards was one of three St. Al runners in the top 12 on Saturday, which helped it claim a second-place finish out of seven teams. Clinton won the girls’ team title with 31 points, St. Al was second with 57, and French Camp was third with 65.

St. Al’s Hendrix Eldridge placed 10th in the individual standings, with a time of 22:26, and Julia Tuminello was 12th in 23:01. Luella Lambiotte finished 23rd, in 25:53.

Clinton’s Kaedyn Wilson finished second overall behind Edwards, with a time of 20 minutes even. French Camp’s Lucy Littlejohn was third in 20:08.

In the boys’ meet, St. Al senior Dalton Windham finished 19th in 20:20; eighth-grader Cohen Coomes was 21st in 20:25; and eighth-grader Asher Rice 26th in 20:55.

Clinton had the top four finishers — including winner Hyrum Booke, with a time of 17:48 — and eight of the top 10 to win the team title with 16 points.

French Camp finished second, with 58 points, and St. Al was third with 79.

Warren Central’s Yashira Narvaiz finished 16th overall, out of 209 runners in the girls’ Blue Division 3K middle school meet, at The Opener Saturday at Choctaw Trails.

Narvaiz had a time of 14 minutes even.

The Opener was a massive meet featuring 1,500 runners from more than 50 schools spread across the middle school and high school divisions.

Ava Henry also placed in the top half of the girls’ Blue Division. She finished 95th, with a time of 17:07.
Warren Central’s Jameson Streif finished 50th and Austin Hood 74th in the boys’ Blue Division 3K, with times of 13:02 and 13:53, respectively.

In the high school races, WC’s Cora Lindsay placed 50th out of 328 runners in the girls’ Red Division 5K, with a time of 23:15. Abigail DeJesus was 127th, in 25:30, and Mere Smith 138th in 26:04.

In the boys’ Red Division 5K, Will Bates led six Warren Central runners with a time of 18:51 that was good for 79th place out of 446 runners.

Aiden Dickerson was 296th, with a time of 23:16, and Bailey Dickerson 309th in 23:37.

In the boys’ White Division 4K race, Vicksburg High’s Casey Brown finished 16th out of 158 runners, with a time of 16:30.

The Gators’ Jayvionte Mack was 108th, in 21:23, and Gideon Thompson 138th in 24:34.

For the Missy Gators, Jakeyla Curry had a time of 30:01 to place 126th out of 145 runners.
