H.L. Geary and N.J. Hall invented a jack for loading and unloading automobiles. • The B.H. Turcott family was ill. • Elizabeth Todd departed for Sulphur Springs, Ark., where she was to teach home economics at John Brown University.

Porter Jared resigned as secretary of the YMCA Men’s Club. • Hazel Tennett, director, was put in charge of the Mint Springs Recreational Group. • Woodrow Ellis was presented with his Eagle Scout Badge during a Court of Honor.
80 Years Ago: 1944
E.H. Puryear, with the U.S. Navy, was in Vicksburg visiting family. • Pvt. Norman E. Bragg graduated from the Department of Armament at Lowry Field in Denver.
70 Years Ago: 1954
Services were held for Mrs. James E. Bradston. • Jessie Thomas died. • Lee Davis Thames began his freshman year at Ole Miss.
60 Years Ago: 1964
Mr. and Mrs. D.E. Gray announced the birth of their daughter, Gerri. • Linda Martin left for her freshman year at Vanderbilt. • Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Mitchell announced the birth of their daughter, Rebecca. • Mr. and Mrs. Harl Harden announced the birth of their son, Robert.
50 Years Ago: 1974
Voters defeated a proposed bond issue concerning an industrial site near Blakely. • Laura Elaine Dent enrolled in St. Dominic School of Nursing. • Mr. and Mrs. Larry Rocconi announced the birth of their daughter, Courtney Elizabeth. • Winners of the Red Carpet Bowl Junior Golf Tournament were Mike Warnock, Douglas Warnock, Charles Eads and Jim Cooper.

A group of deaf friends were paddling down the Mississippi River from Lake Itasca in Minnesota. • Tanner Gardner played Taps at the USS Cairo in memory of those lost during the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. • St. Al was rolling into regional play.
