Women First rally coming to Vicksburg

The Women First: Am I My sister’s Keeper rally, sponsored by the Mu Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., is coming to the River City Sunday, Sept. 22.

The event serves to engage and educate voters while highlighting women in public office and encouraging more women to run for public office, which is one of the targets of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., event organizers said.

The following panelists have confirmed to appear at the rally: former Vicksburg Warren School District Trustee Zelmarine Murphy; Circuit Court Judge Toni Walker Terrett; Circuit Court Judge Tomika Irving; former City of Vicksburg Alderwoman Gertrude Young; and City of Port Gibson Alderwoman Chelshe Archie.

The rally will also be honoring Mississippi Black Women’s Roundtable, Mountain of Faith Ministries and Mississippi Women for Progress for being trailblazers in advocating for Women’s rights, organizers said.

The event will take place at the Vicksburg High School auditorium, 3701 Drummond St., and will feature performances by the Vicksburg High School Gator Girls, VHAS cheerleaders, April Green Dance ensemble and Soloist Ola Clark.

The rally is free of charge and begins at 3 p.m.
