100 Years Ago: 1924 

Beryl Nelson departed for Hood College. • Irma Jones left for Mangham, La. • Frank Artz left to visit his old home near Toms Brooks, Va.

90 Years Ago: 1934

Mose Lowenthall arrived in Vicksburg from Dermott, Ark. to spend the Jewish holiday at home. • Mr. and Mrs. T.F. Huston left on a motor trip to Chicago and points in Minnesota.

80 Years Ago: 1944

Col. Paul Thompson, former director of Waterways Experiment Station, won the Distinguished Service Cross on D-Day; he was seriously injured in the assault. • A son was born to Lt. and Mrs. John A. Hovious. • John. B. Doiron died.

70 Years Ago: 1954

Mrs. George Rogers Jr. was the guest speaker at the Vicksburg Rotary Club. • Horace Buzhardt was sworn into the Naval Reserve. • Lavonia Jiggits and Dr. Edley Jones were married.

60 Years Ago: 1964

Tallulah defeated the Greenies, 22-6. • Martha Goings, of Utica, died. • Services were held for Naomi McNease. • John Raworth retired after 58 years with Merchants National Bank.

50 Years Ago: 1974

Services were held for Vicksburg Evening Post’s Sports Editor William Brown “Billy” Ray. • Mr. and Mrs. J.Vernon Whitaker were honored on their fifth wedding anniversary.  • Mr. and Mrs. James Kenneth Jr. announced the birth of their son, James Kenneth III.

40 Years Ago: 1984

Larry Joe Butler was injured when his motorcycle was hit by a car. • Air National Guard Airman Ronney L. White, of Redwood, completed Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. • John Traxler and George Ezell of Boy Scout Troop 113 attended Camp Kickapoo near Clinton.

30 Years Ago: 1994

Stacey Crocker was crowned Porter’s Chapel Academy’s Homecoming Queen. • Warren Central defeated Callaway 14-0.

20 Years Ago: 2004

Vicksburg and Warren County officials drafted a proposed mutual aid fire agreement.

10 Years Ago: 2014

The city approved a $32.44 million budget. • Judge James Chaney presided over a Tallulah doctor’s prescription forgery trial.  • After a 40-year wait, Porter’s Chapel Academy got a new gym floor.
