Warren Central smashes Germantown

Like a self-help guru, Warren Central football coach Josh Morgan has talked often the past two weeks about his Vikings being the best version of themselves that they can be.
If they weren’t it Friday, they seem well on their way.
Aden Greer scored three rushing touchdowns, and the Vikings scored two more on defense as they rolled past Germantown 56-23 for their second win in a row.
Warren Central (2-1) surpassed the 50-point mark for the first time since a 50-32 victory over Clinton in October 2016.
“We ran the ball very well again, we had some turnovers that went to the house, and we just really played well. It was just a great team effort,” Morgan said. “Once it got to rolling it just started clicking.”
Roosevelt Harris scored on a 53-yard interception return in the first half, and Landon Green had a 20-yard fumble return TD in the second. The Vikings also had a goal line stand on the opening series of the third quarter to deny Germantown a touchdown that would have made it a one-score game.
Germantown (2-1) did end up with a safety in the exchange to cut it to 28-16. But Greer’s 3-yard TD run with 4:11 left in the quarter was followed by Green’s scoop-and-score on the next play from scrimmage to make it 42-16 and blow it open.
“We stopped them on the 1. If they scored there, it could’ve been a different ballgame. They ended up getting a safety, but that was a lot better than a touchdown,” Morgan said. “It was a complete game in all three phases and a big, big win.”
Quarterback Nash Morgan threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Maddox Lynch, and also had a 35-yard rushing TD in the first half. Eric Collins closed the scoring with a 73-yard run with 2:15 left in the game.
Germantown quarterback King White threw two touchdown passes and added a 36-yard rushing TD.
Warren Central will go on the road next week to face MHSAA Class 7A powerhouse Brandon. After stacking back-to-back impressive wins over Pearl and Germantown, however, Josh Morgan is feeling good about their chances.
“We’ve still got some things to clean up and room for improvement is always good to have after a win,” Josh Morgan said. “But to watch us be consistent with that team we saw last Friday and be better, which is what we were tonight, that’s encouraging. We’ve still got a lot of growing to do and that’s what we plan on doing.”
