Samantha Edwards did not win a cross country race at all in 2023. She’s making up for lost time in 2024.

The St. Aloysius senior won her second 5K race in a row, clocking a time of 20 minutes, 44 seconds to smoke the field at the Forerunners Light It Up At Lakeshore meet Saturday in Hattiesburg.

Sydney Moudy of the Hattiesburg Forerunners was a distant second, with a time of 21:36. Columbia Academy’s Madelyn McKenzie was third in 21:56.

Edwards also won the French Camp Invitational last week. She won two races as a sophomore in 2022, but hadn’t won since then until her current winning streak. She also finished second in this season’s first meet in Natchez in August.

Edwards’ teammate Hendrix Eldridge finished 12th on Saturday, and Luella Lambiotte was 33rd out of 108 runners.

In the varsity boys 5K race, St. Al’s Cohen Coomes finished 37th and Dalton Windham 38th out of 147 runners. They crossed the finish line together, with official times of 21:29.50 for Coomes and 21:29.60 for Windham.

William Roberson was about 30 seconds behind them, in 43rd place at 22:01.
