Stingy defense powers Tallulah Academy to district win

Tallulah Academy shook off its first loss of the season with a big get-right win.

The Trojans forced three turnovers and held Union Christian to minus-7 yards of total offense as they cruised to a 42-0 road win on Friday.

Tristan Butler led the outstanding defensive effort with 4.5 total tackles, two tackles for loss and one fumble recovery. Carter Marsh had three tackles, including a tackle for loss and a sack, and forced a fumble.

Luke Moberley was a star on both sides of the ball. The eighth-grade quarterback threw two touchdown passes, ran 26 yards for another score, and had an interception and a fumble recovery on defense. Moberley finished with nearly 100 rushing yards and 58 passing yards.

His 40-yard interception return set up a 13-yard touchdown pass to Denton Ray, and he also threw a 44-yard TD pass to Laken Wilder in the second quarter.

Running back J.T. McDaniel finished with 63 rushing yards and two touchdowns on nine carries. Tallulah had 261 rushing yards as a team and scored all of its points in the first half.

Tallulah Academy (4-1, 1-1 MAIS District 2-1A) rebounded after losing its district opener to Briarfield. The Trojans will play at home on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. against Wilkinson County Christian.
