St. Al’s Lauren Flowers is The Post’s Athlete of the Week

Lauren Flowers closed out St. Aloysius’ first-ever volleyball victory last week, and used another late surge to win another match this week.

Flowers got a late push from her supporters to receive 789 of the 2,152 votes cast in The Vicksburg Post’s Athlete of the Week award, and win a close contest for the honor.

Flowers edged Porter’s Chapel Academy football player Conley Johnston by only 64 votes. Johnston received 725 votes, Tallulah Academy football player Luke Moberley finished third with 459, and Warren Central football player Aden Greer was fourth with 225.

Flowers, a sophomore, had five kills, served five aces, and served on eight of 15 points in the final game of a 3-2 (25-21, 25-6, 14-25, 24-26, 15-4) victory over Clinton Christian on Sept. 9. It was the first win in the two-year history of St. Al’s volleyball program.
