Warren Central wins 10 events, team titles at home swim meet

Warren Central’s swim team was ready for the Rumble on the River.

The Vikings won 10 events, and swept the boys, girls, and combined team titles Saturday at their home Rumble on the River meet at City Pool.

Warren Central totaled 124 combined points — 65 from the girls and 59 from the boys — to take the team title.

Clinton was second, with 102 points; Newton County was third, with 43; and St. Aloysius was fourth with 30 points from a limited roster.

Avery Greer and Kara Rowe each won four events for Warren Central in the girls’ meet.

Greer was victorious in the 200 yard individual medley, with a time of 2:35.56, and the 100 yard backstroke in 1:12.91.

Rowe won the 100 yard butterfly in 1:17.81 and the 500 freestyle in 6:32.11.

Greer and Rowe also teamed with Addison Billings and Ella Opperman to win the 200 and the 400 freestyle relays in 2:01.55 and 4:33.59, respectively.

Billings added a second-place finish in the 100 freestyle, and Aubrey Rankin was second in the 100 butterfly.

On the boys’ side, Ashtin Wallace won three events to lead Warren Central. He swam to victory in the 200 IM (2:10.98) and 100 backstroke (58.13 seconds), and teamed with Jacob Byrd, James McKenna and Thomas Kilroy on the winning 400 freestyle relay.

Kilroy finished second in the 50 yard freestyle, in 26.14 seconds. He was also on the winning 200 yard medley relay team with Ace Orosco, Duncan Hsu and Cormack Wiedenfield. They had a time of 1:53.85.

McKenna had two second-place finishes, in the 200 IM and 100 yard backstroke, and Byrd had one in the 100 freestyle.

St. Al’s Caleb Jones won the boys’ 100 yard breaststroke in 1:22.84.

The Flashes also had second-place performances by Olivia Busby in the girls’ 200 IM and 50 freestyle; and Elle Larson in the girls’ 100 backstroke.
