Vicksburg Chief of Police Penny Jones and officials with the Vicksburg Warren School District (VWSD) are working to alert parents and guardians that online reports of a shooting and lockdown at Warren Central High School are untrue.

“These are bots that are making these posts online,” Jones said Tuesday afternoon after both online posts and text messages began circulating, claiming an “active shooter situation” was taking place at WCHS.

“The Vicksburg Warren School District is addressing false rumors about shots fired and a lockdown at Warren Central High School. These reports are untrue,” VWSD officials said in a statement. “Students and staff are safe and the school is operating as usual. There has been no disruption to normal activities. “
