Henry Levy reported on the National Exchange Club Convention in Nashville. • Mrs M.E. Hill was ill. • Capt. James Gorman, who was ill, had gotten worse.

Memorial services were held for the late J.W. Collier, a longtime congressman from the local district. • Promotion Day exercises took place at the First Baptist Church. • Billy Gathright, of Mobile, spent the weekend in Vicksburg. •John C. Hutchinson died.
80 Years Ago: 1944
Mr. and Mrs. George Sudduth returned from Hendersonville, N.C., where they spent the summer. • A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. William T. Rawdon. • M.F. Loftin was in New Orleans, where he underwent surgery.
70 Years Ago: 1954
Services were held for Mr. J.J. Williamson. • Mr. and Mrs. Louis Calegan and their son returned to their home in Chicago after visiting relatives in Vicksburg. • “Detective Story” was playing at the Alamo Theater.
60 Years Ago: 1964
Mrs. Frank Artz, of Centerville, was visiting friends in Vicksburg. • E.T. Birdsong passed away. • Lynn Carter left for her freshman year at Northeast College in Monroe, La. • Mr. and Mrs. R.W. Wilson and their children were visiting New Orleans.
50 Years Ago: 1974
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Jones and daughter, of Gulfport, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Sonny Montgomery. • Spec. 4 Robert D. Barnette was presented the Army Commendation Medal, awarded for meritorious service in Italy. • Willie Stevens was honored on his 88th birthday at Goodrum Memorial Baptist Church. • Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Randall Jr. were the parents of a son, William Mansell.

Services were held for Alexander Caston, of Utica. • Semifinalists in the National Achievement Scholarships for Outstanding Negro Students were Felix Brown and Tonya Tyler. • Paul Thomas Sr. died.

Alicia Vample celebrated her fifth birthday.

Crews began working on five soccer fields on city property and adjacent to the Vicksburg Municipal Airport.

Shooters got 60 years for the home invasion and shooting of an elderly couple. • Vicksburg closed out the fiscal year with a $1.14 million surplus. • Karley Hinson was crowned PCA’s homecoming queen.
