Brandon Gilliam almost single-footedly propelled Alabama State’s football team to a victory last weekend, and was rewarded for his efforts on Monday.

The junior kicker from Warren Central was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference’s Special Teams Player of the Week after scoring 14 of Alabama State’s 26 points in a 26-21 win over Bethune-Cookman.

Gilliam kicked four field goals and was 2-for-2 on PATs. He made a career-long field goal of 49 yards in the first quarter, and later was good from 28, 37 and 23 yards.

For the season, Gilliam is 4-for-6 on field goals and 3-for-3 on PATs for the Hornets. He also kicks off.

Gilliam is the second former Warren Central kicker this season to be named the SWAC Special Teams Player of the Week. Southern University’s Joshua Griffin received the honor for the week of Sept. 10, after making three field goals and three PATs in a 42-10 victory over Savannah State.
